Brookside Park in Cleveland is the subject here, with a pavilion set beside the park's lake. The picture survives as an 8 by 10 inch glass dry plate negative, the large format commonly used by commercial view makers of the early 1900s, and it was produced by the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers traveled widely recording American towns, parks and scenery. Cleveland's park system grew considerably in those years, giving city residents places to picnic, boat and gather outdoors. The negative reached the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
