A woman stands with a zither in this hand-colored woodcut, titled *Uchitsutsu-mae*. The caption on the mount calls her Lady Uchitsutsu and places her in a series of three prints of beautiful women. Such pictures, known as *bijin-ga*, were a staple of Japanese woodblock printing, and musical skill was a common sign of refinement in them. The catalog record dates the print to 1720 and credits both Utagawa Hiroshige and Nishimura Shigenobu, names associated with different periods, so the date and attribution should be treated as tentative. Color was often added by hand to printed outlines like these, giving each impression its own tones.
