Its slogan, "Good grades - Habits go together," ties good schoolwork to good health habits, and it was made for the City of Chicago Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium. In 1939 tuberculosis was still a serious public health threat in American cities, and sanitariums ran education campaigns aimed at families and schoolchildren. The Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, produced silkscreen posters like this one to carry such messages to a broad public at low cost. Its bold flat color and short wording were chosen so that a passerby could take in the lesson at a glance.
