The message here is direct: a visit to a doctor or clinic is the way to keep a family member from catching tuberculosis, and the poster addresses women specifically. Created in 1936 in New York State under the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, it was one of many silkscreen posters that carried public health advice to communities during the Depression. Tuberculosis was still a leading cause of death in the 1930s, and early screening and clinic care were central to the campaigns of that era. A date stamp on the back, September 1938, shows the sheet was in circulation or filed two years after it was printed.
