The title sets this poster apart: *East Side West Side* refers to the two halves of Manhattan and announces an exhibition of photographs centered on New York in the 1930s. Produced in 1938 as a silkscreen color print on board, it was sponsored by the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration. Silkscreen was the method the WPA poster program used to make inexpensive, bold announcements for exhibitions, concerts and public events across the country. A date stamp on the back, January 1939, records when the piece was filed.
