Few posters in the WPA collection tie planning and housing to a single regional venue the way this one does. It advertised a city planning and housing exhibition at the Sioux City Art Center in Iowa in October 1936, presented under the Federal Art Project. During the New Deal, many cities were grappling with overcrowded neighborhoods and substandard housing, and exhibitions like this one aimed to show residents how their communities might be rebuilt. The poster was printed by silkscreen, a method the Federal Art Project's poster workshops used to produce bold, flat color at low cost.
