This silkscreen poster advertises an exhibition of industrial designs held at the Ottumwa Art Center in Iowa, a small city on the Des Moines River. It was designed and made by the Iowa Art Program, one of the state units of the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Those New Deal programs employed artists during the Great Depression and often used silkscreen to produce inexpensive posters for public events. The poster's date stamp of October 1940 on the back suggests it was kept or filed years after its 1936 design.
