Sioux City, Iowa, is the setting for this silkscreen poster, which advertised arts and crafts activities at the city's East High, West Junior, North Junior, and Woodrow Wilson recreation centers. It dates to 1936, when the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, was producing posters for public agencies and community programs across the country. Silkscreen let designers print bold, flat color in small runs at low cost, which suited the modest budgets of local recreation departments. The back of the board carries a later stamp dated October 1940, a reminder that posters like this could stay in use for years.
