Few posters of the period announce a local event as specifically as this one, which promotes a parade of outstanding high school bands from eastern Illinois, with Charleston named in its subject headings as the setting. Produced in 1940 as a silkscreen print under the Federal Art Project, it reflects how Works Progress Administration poster units made inexpensive, colorful notices for community events during the Depression. A handwritten date of 12/30/41 on the back shows the sheet was still being handled more than a year later, well after the 1940 season it promoted.
