Few WPA posters mark a county's own birthday as directly as this 1939 silkscreen, which advertises a DuPage County centennial exhibition with a focus on police and firemen. DuPage County, west of Chicago, was organized in 1839, so the show celebrated a century of local government and the public services that supported it. The Federal Art Project sponsored the work, and the artist credited as Dusek shows how the Work Projects Administration put artists to work during the Depression, producing public notices and event posters for communities across the country.
