This poster advertises an Old Settlers picnic on July 15 in Roselle, held in connection with DuPage County's centennial, and it documents a local Illinois event within a collection largely devoted to national and regional subjects. Old settlers' gatherings were a common way Midwestern communities honored the families who arrived first and built the farms and towns around them. Made under the Federal Art Project, the New Deal program that employed artists to produce inexpensive silkscreen posters, it was printed in 1936, and a 1939 date stamp on the back shows it stayed in use well after the picnic.
