The Bowling Green Offices building stands at the edge of Bowling Green, the small park at the foot of Broadway that is among the oldest public spaces in Manhattan. Irving Underhill, a New York commercial photographer, made this 1919 view, and the copyright notice shows it was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, which required deposit prints. The picture records the lower Manhattan streetscape of the late 1910s, when dense office blocks were crowding the financial district and changing its skyline.
