This silkscreen poster advertises the Federal theater Project's staging of *Big White Fog*, a drama by Theodore Ward, and it is one of the few surviving theater posters that name the play and its Black author so prominently. Ward's play follows an African American family in the Depression-era Black community of New York, and its portrait of economic hardship and fading hope made it one of the most discussed productions the Federal theater staged. The Work Projects Administration commissioned posters like this one to publicize its theater, which employed writers, actors and designers and brought live drama to working audiences at low ticket prices.
