Two young women, Mary Seldon and Dora Wagner, appear in this glass negative, which the National Photo Company titled "Debutantes with Summer Follies" and dated June 30, probably 1924. The company was a Washington, D.C., studio that recorded local society, officials and events from the 1910s into the 1930s, and Herbert A. French gave its negatives to the Library of Congress in 1947. Debutante presentations were a regular part of the capital's social calendar in the 1920s, and summer revues were a popular setting for such events. The streaks and blemishes on the glass come from deterioration of the original coating, not from the scene itself.
