This lantern slide records Theodore Roosevelt's 1913 to 1914 expedition into the Brazilian interior, which followed the River of Doubt, a little-mapped tributary later renamed Rio Roosevelt in his honor. Kermit Roosevelt, his son, made many of the expedition's photographs, and glass lantern slides like this one were used to project images for audiences at lectures after the party returned. The trip was grueling, and Roosevelt's health suffered badly from fever and an infected leg wound during the journey.
