The title's appeal to a "battle cry" for the Bavarian People's Party frames a domestic enemy as the threat, and the subject headings point to fear of communism and property destruction. The poster dates from 1920, a year after the Bavarian Soviet Republic in Munich was crushed by right-wing Freikorps units and government troops in spring 1919. The Bavarian People's Party, a Catholic conservative party, had been formed in 1919-1920 as a Bavarian counterpart to the Center Party, and it used such imagery to rally voters during the postwar unrest and the Weimar-era elections.
