The poster's German text asks Christian voters whether Spartacus, a reference to the radical Spartacist left, will tear down their churches, and urges them to "answer on election day." The Bavarian People's Party, a Catholic conservative party, issued it in 1919, a year when Munich had seen revolutionary upheaval, including a short-lived council republic, and when the defeat in the war still shaped daily life. The poster ties the party's cause to religion and property, playing on fears of communism that were widespread among Catholic and rural voters in Bavaria.
