Ad Brennan, a pitcher for the Philadelphia National League club, is the subject here, and the original caption card identifies him simply as "Brennan, Phils, 1912." The picture comes from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied photographs of sports and news figures to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Its glass negatives now form part of the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. The title was later confirmed through research by the Society for American Baseball Research's Pictorial History Committee.
