Here the subject is Gavvy Cravath, the Philadelphia Phillies outfielder, photographed at the Polo Grounds in New York, the Giants' home park and a regular stop on the National League schedule. Cravath was a powerful right-handed hitter who became one of the league's leading home run hitters in the 1910s, when the long ball was still a novelty in the dead-ball era.
