This glass negative shows Tom Daley of the Philadelphia Athletics, American League, photographed at the Polo Grounds in New York. The Polo Grounds, in upper Manhattan, was home to the New York Giants, and visiting clubs played there often, especially in the early 1910s. The Athletics were among the strongest teams of that era, winning the American League pennant several times under manager Connie Mack. The Bain News Service, a commercial photo agency, produced the picture, and its caption card spells the player's name "Daly." The date of 1913 is an estimate based on later research by the Society for American Baseball Research.
