The Champs-Élysées is the long avenue that runs from the Place de la Concorde toward the Arc de Triomphe, and this stereograph shows it as it looked around 1900, when the boulevard was already a fashionable promenade of cafés, carriages and tree-lined walks. Stereo cards like this one were made in pairs of nearly identical photographs, which a viewer saw through a lens to produce a three-dimensional effect. The card's copyright notation suggests it was registered for sale in the United States, where stereoviews of European cities were popular in parlors at the turn of the century. Its record preserves a useful snapshot of Paris's grand boulevards in the Belle Époque.
