Labeled No. 3 in the *Beauties of the Rocky Mountains* series, this stereograph card carries the title *Bald Mountain* and an 1869 date. Albumen prints mounted on card like this were sold in sets and viewed through a stereoscope, which fused two slightly offset photographs into one image with apparent depth, making them a popular parlor pastime in the decades after the Civil War. The record's subject tags, however, point to San Antonio and Austin, Texas, in the 1920s, a mismatch worth checking before relying on the card's date or location.
