Congressional Country Club, in the Bethesda area just northwest of Washington, D.C., took shape in the early 1920s as a social club for legislators, federal officials, and their friends. This glass negative is part of the National Photo Company Collection, a body of work made by a Washington firm that documented the city and its surroundings in the early twentieth century. The record dates it to about 1923, which places it near the club's founding years, when the grounds were still new to members. The negative also shows streaks and blemishes from the deterioration of its original coating, which is worth keeping in mind when judging the detail.
