A group from the Dramatic Club of American University is the subject of this glass negative, dated May 20, 1926. The university, chartered in Washington, D.C., in 1893, was a young institution then, and student theatrical groups were a lively part of its campus life. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio active in the early twentieth century, recorded many aspects of the city's public and social life, which makes its negatives a useful window onto the period. Herbert A. French gave this example to the collection in 1947. Streaks and blemishes in the glass reflect the natural deterioration of the original coatings.
