A glass negative from January 30, 1923, shows an Agricultural Department poultry club, though the title and date come from caption data on the negative sleeve that has not been independently verified. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm known for photographing the capital's streets, institutions and officials, made the image. Poultry clubs of the period often focused on improving farm flocks through shared breeding and management practices. The streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural deterioration of its original coatings, not from the scene itself.
