A wide two-part panorama, made from a pair of glass negatives measuring 18 by 22 inches, shows cane fields at Post's in Louisiana with carts and wagons moving among the stalks. Dated October 1890, the right-hand plate is listed in the Detroit Publishing Company negative log as L-6076, and the left plate carries the imprint of the Detroit Photographic Co. and W.H. Jackson & Co. Sugarcane was the backbone of Louisiana's plantation economy in the late nineteenth century, and views like this one record the field work and hauling that carried the harvest toward the mill.
