The dining hall in the main building at Ellis Island is the subject here, a room where arriving immigrants were fed while they waited to be processed. The image is a halftone reproduction from *Quarantine Sketches*, a 1902 pamphlet issued by the Maltine Company, a maker of malt extract, as advertising for physicians. The main building had opened in 1900 after fire destroyed the earlier station, so the picture captures the facility soon after its rebuilding.
