A drawbridge spanning a waterway, with figures working among tools and equipment, is the detail that sets this drawing apart. The subject headings place the scene in Tokyo between 1850 and 1900, a period when Western visitors were becoming more common after Japan opened to foreign trade in the 1850s. The attribution to Isoda Koryūsai, an Edo-period artist active from the 1760s to the 1780s, does not match the catalog date of 1750, so the dating is best treated as provisional. The tools shown beside the workers offer a useful glimpse of everyday labor.
