Taken at Oyster Bay in September 1908, this photograph shows a group of men calling on President Theodore Roosevelt during the last year of his second term. The title places the village in Illinois, but Oyster Bay is on the north shore of Long Island in New York, where Roosevelt kept his summer home, Sagamore Hill, and often received visitors. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a New York news photography agency that supplied pictures to newspapers, so it is a working news photograph of the kind published at the time. The record does not name the men, so their identities should be checked before the picture is cited.
