Mount Pocono's Lackawanna Railroad station stood in a mountain town in northeastern Pennsylvania that grew up around the tracks and the summer trade they brought. The Lackawanna line carried city visitors from New York and other eastern cities into the Pocono hills, where resort hotels and boarding houses drew them each season. This 8 by 10 inch glass negative dates to about 1905 and comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose views of railroads, towns and scenic places were sold widely as souvenirs and promotional pictures. Glass plates like this one recorded fine detail, which makes the company's views useful for studying how small depot towns looked in the early twentieth century.
