Calvin Coolidge took the presidential oath in Washington on March 4, 1925, the start of a term he won after succeeding Warren G. Harding, who died in office in 1923. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that documented the capital in the 1910s through the early 1930s, made this glass negative. The record dates it by its neighbors in the collection, and the title comes from unverified studio notes, so the exact moment shown is uncertain. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from age in the original coatings.
