Calvin Coolidge was sworn in to a full term as president in March 1925, after winning the 1924 election, and this glass negative is one of the National Photo Company's views of the Washington ceremonies around that time. The title comes from the company's own notes and has not been independently verified, and the date is inferred from neighboring negatives, so the exact occasion is not certain. The National Photo Company documented Washington streets, buildings and public events on glass plates during the 1910s and 1920s. Streaks and blemishes across the glass come from the coating breaking down over the decades, which is worth noticing when reading the scene.
