Calvin Coolidge is pictured with Lt. Dan R. Edward at the White House on October 3, 1924, during the presidency he had assumed after Warren G. Harding's death in August 1923. The picture comes from the National Photo Company collection, a commercial studio that recorded Washington's streets, public buildings and officials in the early twentieth century. The title was taken from data the company wrote on the negative and has not been independently verified. The glass plate also shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of its original coating, which is worth keeping in mind when judging its detail.
