A British peer, Lord Bledisloe, stands at the White House in this October 1924 view, one of the few records in the collection that places a foreign visitor at the presidential residence. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio active in Washington in the early twentieth century, made thousands of such views of the city's official life, government buildings and visitors. The record's date and title come from notes the studio wrote on the negative or its sleeve and have not been independently verified. The glass plate shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coating, which is typical of negatives from this era.
