President Calvin Coolidge is pictured at the White House with members of the Fur Traders Association on October 2, 1924, placing the fur trade's representatives before the nation's chief executive about a year after he succeeded Warren G. Harding. The picture was made by the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented government officials, visiting delegations and civic events in the early twentieth century. As a glass negative, it shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coatings, a common condition for plates of this age.
