Al Jolson, the singer and stage star then at the height of his fame, is pictured with a group of companions outside the White House in Washington, D.C., in October 1924. The picture is a glass negative from the National Photo Company, a commercial studio that photographed Washington landmarks and visitors in the 1910s and 1920s. Jolson was a star of Broadway and the new talking pictures, so a visit to the nation's capital drew press attention and the studio's camera. The title and date come from notes written by the studio and later cataloging, so some details are not fully confirmed.
