Calvin Coolidge took the oath for his first full term at the Capitol on March 4, 1925, after assuming the presidency in August 1923 following Warren Harding's death. This glass negative comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded the capital's streets, buildings and public events in the early twentieth century. Its title and date rest on information written on the negative or sleeve, which has not been independently verified. Look closely and you may see streaks and blemishes, marks of age on glass that has held its image for nearly a century.
