Shot from the bridge over the Golden Horn, this view looks across the busy water toward the old city of Constantinople, now Istanbul. It was made by the photochrom process, a Swiss method that transferred photographs onto lithographic stones and printed them in several colors, so the scene has a painted softness. The Detroit Publishing Company issued it in a 1905 catalog of Turkish views, as print number 6192. Such views were popular with travelers and armchair tourists who wanted to see distant places.
