Known in Turkish as Beyazıt Camii, this mosque in Istanbul, which the record calls Constantinople, was commissioned by Sultan Bayezid II in the early 1500s and is one of the oldest great imperial mosques in the city. Its courtyard, domed prayer hall, and surrounding schools and charitable buildings formed a complete religious and educational complex. The print is a photochrom, a color process that combined photography with several lithographic stones, and it appears in a Detroit Publishing Company catalog of Turkish views issued in 1905.
