Despite its title, "Old Rhine Bridge," this view shows the Old Main Bridge at Würzburg, which crosses the Main River, a tributary of the Rhine, in Bavaria. Built in the late 1400s, the bridge is lined with Baroque statues of saints added in the 1700s, and it connects the old town with the east bank below the Marienberg fortress. The Detroit Publishing Company sold these photochrom prints in the United States as souvenirs of Germany, using a multi-stone lithographic process to add color to photographs.
