Swanage, a seaside town on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, is the place this print names, and its title points to a single building called The Globe rather than a general town view. The photochrom process behind it used hand-retouched color lithography, a technique that Detroit Publishing Co. later sold widely in America. The print was issued in the company's 1905 catalog of England views, though the photograph itself dates from the 1890s. Its color and soft detail offer a useful record of a Victorian resort town shortly after the railway reached Swanage in 1885.
