Great Marlow sits on a bend of the Thames in Buckinghamshire, well west of London, and this view shows the riverside town as late Victorian travelers would have known it. The picture is a photochrom, a color process developed in Switzerland that the Detroit Publishing Company licensed for American sale, and it was printed from a photograph taken around the 1890s. The catalog heading places it under "London and suburbs," though Great Marlow is a separate market town, a reminder of how loosely such labels were applied in the period's travel publishing.
