Construction crews are shown at work inside the bowl of the Berlin Olympic Stadium, a view taken in the years just before the 1936 Summer Games. The architect Werner March rebuilt the older arena on the site as a large reinforced concrete structure meant to hold roughly 100,000 spectators. The record credits the photograph to Dr. Wolf Strache, but that attribution comes from an old caption card and has not been verified. The picture belongs to a larger group of images on physical training in Germany, which shows how the Nazi state treated sports venues as displays of national strength.
