Two middle-distance runners anchor this 1936 photograph from the Berlin Olympics: New Zealander Jack Lovelock and American Glen Cunningham. Lovelock won the 1500 meters at those Games, and Cunningham took the silver medal in that event. Berlin hosted the competition in the newly built Olympic Stadium, and the Nazi government used the Games heavily for propaganda, so pictures from the event are worth viewing with that context in mind.
