Few Yellowstone views of the 1870s focus on the hot springs along the Gardiner River, which drain toward the park's northern edge. This chromolithograph, issued by L. Prang & Co. of Boston, renders the terraced pools and mineral deposits in layered color. The title carries the initials "TM," which most likely refer to the painter Thomas Moran, whose Yellowstone sketches helped turn the region's scenery into popular images. The print reflects the period's interest in Yellowstone, established as the first national park in 1872.
