Tower Falls, a cascade over tall basalt columns on Tower Creek, is paired here with Sulphur Mountain, a reminder of the thermal activity that ran through the region. Yellowstone had become the first national park in 1872, and it was still unfamiliar to most Americans when this chromolithograph appeared around 1875. Louis Prang & Co., the Boston firm known for color reproductions, issued it in its American Chromo series, and the "TM" credit most likely refers to the painter Thomas Moran, whose Yellowstone scenes helped shape how the public pictured the park.
