Tower Falls takes its name from the tall, columnar rock formations beside the falls on Tower Creek, and this chromolithograph centers on that unusual stonework. L. Prang & Co., the Boston firm known for color prints, issued it around 1875. The initials "TM" in the title point to the painter Thomas Moran, whose sketches and paintings from the Hayden surveys of the early 1870s became the source for many color prints of Yellowstone. Prang's lithographers translated those originals into stone, which let viewers far from the park own a colored version of its scenery.
