Green Island, on Lake George in the Adirondack foothills of New York, was a stop for the passenger steamers that carried vacationers around the lake around 1907. Lake George was a fashionable resort by then, and steamboats linked its hotels, cottages and landings, so a landing like this one was a daily scene of trunks, boarding passengers and crews. The photograph came from the Detroit Publishing Company, which sold views of American scenery and travel destinations in the early 1900s. Its print was made to show the leisure tourism that had grown up around the lake.
