Green Island sits in the south end of Lake George, the long glacial lake in Warren County that became a favorite summer destination in the Adirondack foothills of New York. This view, taken from Bolton Hill, looks across the water toward the island and the surrounding peaks. The picture is an 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate negative from the Detroit Publishing Company, which produced many of the hand-colored and black-and-white scenic views sold to travelers and resorts around 1900 to 1910. Its date of about 1904 is an estimate, so it places the scene in the early years of the Lake George tourist boom, when steamboats and grand hotels drew visitors up from New York City.
