Green Island, where the Sagamore boat landing sat on Lake George in Warren County, New York, was a stop for the steamboats that carried summer visitors around the lake. The Sagamore, a resort hotel on the island, drew well-to-do guests from the cities to the Adirondack foothills, and its landing was where they came ashore. This 8 by 10 inch glass negative is from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers documented American resorts and scenic spots in the years around 1900 and sold their views widely. The wharf and boats in the scene show how central lake travel was to the resort trade of that era.
